Travis Birkholz
Coach Birkholz, of Warrensburg, NY, has been coaching with Empire City Soccer
Academy since 2014, serving as a coach for U-17 and U-19 players. Since 2002, he
has been the Head Boys Varsity soccer coach at South Glens Falls High School where
in 2009, 2013, 2014, and 2019 he guided the program to Foothills Council
Championships. Birkholz has led his high school program to four Section 2 Class A
Final appearances, three consecutively, where his Varsity team won the Section 2
Class A Championship in 2014. In 2012 the Post-Star Newspaper as well as the
Saratogian Newspaper named Birkholz the Boys Soccer Coach of the Year. In 2014
Coach Birkholz was named NYS Section 2 Class A Boys Soccer Coach of the Year.
Additionally, Birkholz was a NYSPHSAA Large School Coach of the Year Finalist in
2019. During the summer months, Coach Birkholz is the Director of the “Bulldog Soccer
Camp” for children in grades 5-12 held at South Glens Falls High School.
Under his tutelage, many players have been named to Foothills Council All-Star Teams,
Capital Region All-Star Teams, Section 2 Player of the Year , Section 2 Goalkeeper of
the Year, and NYS All-State Teams. Birkholz has guided his players to set several
school records as well as to earn recognition in the NYS Section 2 Boys Soccer record
book. Additionally, two of his players were recognized as one of the top high school
boys soccer players in the nation, receiving recognition as the United Soccer Coaches
High School State Player of the Week.
Coach Birkholz holds the following United Soccer Coaches certifications/diplomas:
Director of Coaching, National, Level 6, Goalkeeper Level 1/2/3, Management of the
Game, Systems of Play, Coaching the Complete Player, Soccer Management and
Development, Mental/Physical Player Development. He has also earned the NFHS
Professional Development Certificate.
Birkholz is also a full time Mathematics Teacher at South Glens Falls High School.
